Shakira Net Worth
Shakira is a Colombian singer and dancer with an estimated net worth of $220 million. She was born on February 2, 1977 in Barranquilla, Atlantico, Colombia as an only child to her mother and father. Her father is actually from New York City; he was born there after his parents emigrated from Lebanon. He moved to Colombia when he was just a small child where he was then raised and met Shakira’s mother. Her name means “grateful,” and her parents felt that it was lovely and fitting for her. One thing many people do not realize about Shakira is that while she is the only child her parents have together, her father was previously married and fathered eight children with his ex-wife, meaning she does have eight half-siblings older than she.
Throughout the course of her entire life, Shakira has been writing. Her first poem was written when she was only four, and she continued to write and create musical lyrics, poems and stories throughout her childhood. When she was only seven, she asked for her own typewriter for Christmas and began writing more poems. She thought for a while she might become a writer, but her love of dance and music eventually won out to that, though she does write many of her own songs and marries her love of both in her current career. Her childhood continued to become more developed as Shakira and her family quickly realized that she was skilled in both writing and dancing, and then she realized she was quite a singer. She began performing around her city and became locally famous.
It was not until 1990 when she was only 13 that she landed her first record deal with Sony in Colombia and began her climb to fame. She was a very dance-heavy singer with dance music vibes, and it worked well for her throughout her childhood. By the time it was 1995, she was given a chance to release another album that debuted at number one in eight Spanish countries, but did not do well in the US. Her fame was rising, but she wanted more. In 2001, Shakira began working on her first crossover album and that’s when she became a worldwide hit. Her first English song, “Whenever, Wherever,” was an immediate hit across the world and that was when the Shakira we all know and love was born.
She has now released more than 10 studio albums, been on five tours and she has become heavily involved in philanthropy. She keeps her private life a private as possible, and she is always in the studio. She dated an attorney by the name of Antonio d la Rua from 2000 to 2011, leaving the relationship behind due to creative differences at that point. She met Spanish footballer Gerard Pique in 2010 after working together on one of her music videos, and she began to date him in 2011 after announcing the end of her previous relationship. The two have welcomed two sons together since, born in 2013 and 2015.
