More Casting News for Oscar Darling Lupita Nyong’o
Remember a few months ago when people were saying that Hollywood might not know what to do with Lupita Nyong’o? I think that case may be closed, as this year’s Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actress and freshest face on the movie scene has been closing multiple casting deals within the last few days.
After solidifying a role in the upcoming Star Wars film (the seventh in the series) three days ago, it has been announced that the Yale grad will produce and star in an adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel Americanah. The novel was the winner of the 2013 National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction.
The film is an epic love story that follows two young Nigerians, Ifemelu and Obinze, as their romance grows across continents. The story showcases the highs and lows of the modern immigrant experience. The 12 Years a Slave star will produce Americanah alongside D2 Productions, Brad Pitt’s producing company Plan B, and Potboiler Productions.
“It is such an honor to have the opportunity to bring Ms. Adichie’s brilliant book to the screen. Page after page I was struck by Ifemelu and Obinze’s stories, whose experiences as African immigrants are so specific and also so imminently relatable. It is a thrilling challenge to tell a truly international story so full of love, humor and heart.” Nyong’o said in a press release.
This movie seems like a perfect choice for the gorgeous and talented starlet. In addition to Star Wars:Episode VII, Nyong’o will play a mother wolf in Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book.
