Charlie Hunnam Admits it Was “Heartbreaking” to Drop Role as Christian Grey

Premiere Of FX's "Sons Of Anarchy" Season 6 - Red Carpet

Jamie Dornan is enjoying life as the lead role in the film-adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey. Not only does he get all the publicity and fame from the much-anticipated film, he gets to enjoy some fun scenes with Dakota Johnson. Let us not forget that Mr. Dornan wasn’t the first pick for the role of Christian Grey. Last October, Charlie Hunnam, then Christian Grey, dropped out of the role because of a scheduling conflict with Sons of Anarchy. Apparently, he’s not over it…

According to reports, Hunnam is still feeling the pain from dropping out of the role. In fact, he has admitted that dropping out of the role in E.L. James’ best-seller was “heartbreaking”.

“I felt like I had an interesting take on that character and felt like I could have done a good job of playing Christian Grey, otherwise I wouldn’t have taken it on in the first place,” Hunnam told Life & Style this past weekend. “When you put the time into something like that and a character comes alive in your mind, it’s heartbreaking not to be able to play him. … It was definitely kind of heartbreaking having to say goodbye to that character and not bring it to life.”

Hunnam also admitted that he would happily attend the premiere of the movie if he was invited. We believe Hunnam would have been terrific for the role, but it may not be the worst thing he didn’t fulfill the role. Something tells me Hunnam is going to have plenty of opportunities post-Sons.
