9.  Mark Twain

I bet you didn’t know that Mark Twain filed for bankruptcy. In 1895 it was called ‘insolvency’ but was basically the same thing. Twain sank his fortune into a new typesetting machine that didn’t really work, followed by his publishing company not working either (it collapsed). Fortunately, Twain was able to erase his debt with a global speaking tour and several new books.
