‘True Detective’ Creator’s Novel Set to Hit Theaters

“True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto’s novel, “Galveston,” has been financed for filming by Low Spark Films and Jean Doumanian Productions. Embankment films is selling the film in Cannes and internationally.

Janus Metz will direct it. The film is set to start shooting in October 2014.

“Galveston” is the story of a New Orleans hitman, who in addition to being diagnosed with cancer, has a mob boss who wants to have him killed.

Tyler Davidson of Low Spark Films will join the production team together with Jean Doumanian and Patrick Daly of Jean Doumanian Productions.

“Galveston is one of the most soulful and electrifying scripts I’ve read in years, and I couldn’t be more excited to join Jean and Patrick in realizing Nic Pizzolatto’s singular vision on the big screen,” said Tyler Davidson. “With the formidable talents of director Janus Metz and the extraordinary Matthias Schoenaerts, the pieces are in place, and we’re ready to go.”

Low Spark Films has funded Sundance Film Festival favorites, like CBS Films’ The Kings of Summer, directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (2013); Focus Features’ The Signal (2014) from directed and co-written by William Eubank; Magnolia Pictures’ Compliance (2012) directed and written by Craig Zobel; and Sony Pictures Classics’ Take Shelter directed and written by Jeff Nichols (2011).
