ABC Announces Rosie O’Donnell’s Return to The View

It’s official: Rosie O’Donnell is returning to The View as a co-host during the fall season. After reports and speculation hit the airwaves on Wednesday, ABC issued a statement that they are not in any position to make any announcements. First thing Thursday morning, however, ABC reps used their official Twitter page to announce the former co-hosts comeback for the fall season. She’s expected to be the first in a string of replacements after the talk show lost three of its hosts this season, including creator Barbara Walters, and co-hosts Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy.

Now that this rumor mill has been put to rest, it’s time to focus on the additional co-host seats available. Speculation surrounds Senator John McCain’s daughter, Meghan, who is a conservative who is slated to return next week as a guest co-host on the panel. The show is famed for wanting to keep the panel as diverse as possible, and with the return of very liberal O’Donnell, the media believes McCain would make a great counterpart.

As the new season begins in the fall, Whoopi Goldberg will be the only returning host. On Thursday’s show, she had this to say, “The respect that I have for the people who work here will not change. I will do my best to make sure we bring you The View the Barbara Walters wanted you to have, which is women discussing issues. We are not little kids. We are grown women.” Goldberg goes onto say that she’s tired of the discussion about how the show deliberately brings on personalities that clash with one another. She tells her audience that arguments are not the basis of the show, rather debate and spirited discussions are what the show is all about.

Anyone who has ever watched an episode of The View knows that spirited is an understatement for some of the discussions these ladies get into.
